Before the start of a hand, each player is given a number of chips. These chips are usually green or red. The first player to place a bet is called the first bettor. The earliest bet is made during the first betting interval, and the last bet is made at the end of the betting interval. Depending on the type of game, the betting interval is a one-time event. If the player does not bet the minimum in the first betting interval, he must bet or raise the amount of the pot in the next betting interval. The ante is the minimum bet.
Aside from the betting intervals, there are other rules that govern the game. Generally, the maximum limit for bets is set.
